The peculiarity of natural wood is that in such housing every wall “breathes”. True, there are also disadvantages, for example, logs can shrink due to loss of moisture and other factors. The main reasons for the shrinkage of logs in a wooden house
Shrinkage of a house made of natural wood is considered an inevitable process. The fact is that wood is a porous, living building material. The tree is able to absorb and release water, which increases or decreases the volume of logs. In the process of drying the material, the height of the walls of the housing may change slightly. Note that the shrinkage of a wooden house, for which rounded logs were used, occurs much faster than a building made of beams. It is impossible to avoid shrinkage at home, but it is possible to regulate this process, as well as reduce the consequences in the future.
The specificity and duration of shrinkage of a wooden house may depend on certain factors (for example, the type and moisture level of the building material). This factor may be affected by the size of the logs, the type of wood, the area of the room, the method of erection, or the season in which the building was built. Also, shrinkage is slightly affected by weather conditions and the degree of humidity of the environment.
Adjusting a wooden house: features of mechanisms against shrinkage of logs and wooden beams

- Window frames and door leafs are mounted in shrink boxes. These boxes have gaps, the size of which is 4% of the height of doors and windows. This method is suitable for buildings made of rounded beams.
- For buildings that are built using dry profiled beams, boxes are made with a gap of 2%. Note that such bars do not shrink by themselves, as they are completely dry. However, an insulating material is laid between them, which gives that shrinkage.
A wooden house shrinks very strongly in the first 12 months after construction. Given this feature, thanks to modern technologies, negative consequences can be eliminated by competently using new technical methods.
Most often, special devices are used for such purposes – compensators. Thanks to such devices, it is possible to adjust the supporting wooden poles. For many years, specialists have successfully used such compensators during the construction of wooden houses.
Adjusting a wooden house with the help of fixtures is carried out as follows – they are mounted between a log and a supporting beam located under the roof.
