Village houses of the old type are most often solid wooden buildings. They outlive their owners and are inherited by their families. Someone does not need such buildings, and they sell them, and someone decides to make them their own home. In any case, people are faced with the need to restore the house, as time leaves its mark on any kind of material. Consider the main stages of the restoration of old wooden houses.

Foundation work

The first thing you pay attention to when examining an old house is the foundation. It is the basis that can withstand the load of the entire building. Therefore, upon examination, they reveal:

  1. destroyed areas;
  2. collapsed corners;
  3. cracks;
  4. mold.

Any deformation of the foundation must be eliminated. To work with the foundation, the wooden log house is lifted with the help of jacks, then formwork is made and concrete mixture is poured into the desired areas. Previously, all places where the filling will be carried out are thoroughly cleaned.

Wall restoration

When the foundation is restored, proceed to the restoration of wooden walls. Wood is a wonderful natural building material, but it cannot be called durable, because over time, horizontal cracks and rotten areas appear in the logs. Sometimes in the walls of old houses there are so damaged logs that they have to be replaced with new ones. The following work is carried out with the remaining logs:

  • identified gaps, cracks are carefully cleaned;
  • treated with an antiseptic;
  • cracks are sealed with a special sealant.

However, working with defects will not be enough. Since the wooden walls have stood for more than a dozen years, they are polished, then treated with various impregnations and protective agents. Thanks to this tree, resistance to external influences is given. The next step in working with walls is caulking. To do this, the old sealing material is removed, the seams are sealed with a new sealant. Its convenient modern option is acrylic rubber sealant.

When inspecting the walls, pay special attention to areas under the windows. Since more moisture gets on them, there may be pockets of decay. To prevent them from spreading to other areas, it is necessary to remove all identified foci.

The last step in working with wooden walls is painting them. In this case, you can simply apply a coloring composition of the desired color to the wood or additionally use another coating, such as varnish.

Often a special paint is used for wood – azure. Its translucent appearance does not hide the unique natural pattern of the wood. If the house is too old and the frame needs to be strengthened, the facade can be bricked up. Also, sometimes they perform insulation of wooden walls with sheathing with siding. Thanks to this, a comfortable microclimate is created inside the house, and outside it cannot be distinguished from a new building.

Roof restoration

The last stage of restoration work is the repair of the roof. To do this, inspect the existing rafters, crate and coating. If rot or mold is found on the rafters, cleaning is performed using hewing. When the defect is too large, the area is replaced with a new one. The crate is updated in those places where damage is found. If it is decided to completely replace the roofing material, this may require laying a new batten with a modified pitch.

Roofing in old houses can already be quite worn out, so most often it is changed to a modern coating. In any case, restoring an old village house is much cheaper than buying or building a new building.
